The Maltese Citizenship by Naturalisation for Exceptional Services by Direct Investment is the only EU citizenship-by-investment programme currently active. Successful applicants receive Maltese (and therefore EU) citizenship after a 12 to 36 month residency period, a property investment of at least EUR 700,000 (or rental of at least EUR 16,000/year), and a contribution of EUR 600,000 to EUR 750,000 depending on the residency period chosen.
