The 2026 REWS grant scheme puts €15,300,000 behind residential renewable installations. The two grants that matter for a household are the PV grant and the battery grant, and both are capped twice: per unit of capacity and per system.

Who the grant is really for
The grant follows the property, not the applicant. In practice that means three things decide whether the scheme is available to you:
- You own the property, or you have the owner's written consent. Tenants cannot apply on their own, which is why the panels conversation in Malta is really an ownership conversation.
- You have rights over the roof. In an apartment block the roof is usually a common part or belongs to the top-floor owner (airspace), so a block installation needs the co-owners' agreement.
- The installation is done by a compliant installer and commissioned onto your Enemalta account, because the grant and the tariff both attach to the meter.

Is the battery grant still open?
Part A of the 2026 scheme closed for the battery storage options on 13 July 2026. The scheme has historically reopened with new funding envelopes, so treat the battery figures as what the scheme pays when a call is open, and check the REWS site for the current status before ordering equipment.
Do I qualify if I rent my home?
Generally no. The grant follows the property, and installing a system needs the owner's consent and rights over the roof. If you rent, the practical route is to raise it with your landlord; if you own but share a roof (an apartment block), you will need the other owners' agreement for the common parts.
What is the feed-in tariff for grant-aided systems?
Electricity you export from a grant-aided residential system is bought at 10.5c per kWh, guaranteed for 20 years. Systems installed without the grant earn a higher tariff, which is why the calculator models the grant path separately.
